Remote Working Part 3 – The ‘kit’ list

Before I give you my collection of really good Internet tools that I promise will assist you to operate remotely, I want to make you aware of one more item concerning self management and specifically to do with keeping your focus and levels of concentration
I’ve spotted and confirmed a common behavior in colleagues who work on the net and I’ve known for a substantial period and I call this behavior the fifty minute effect. I discovered these individuals who apply themselves and work for fifty minutes and then kick back for a complete 10 mins. rest and are considerably more productive and produce a substantially greater quality of work than friends who don’t have set working methods.
OK as promised here is my list of choice remote working tools:
Electronic Mail
Google Mail won’t cost you a penny. For my money the search & label (categories) features are second to none. So far the only gripe I have is that it runs a bit slow on not so new PC’s
Phone calls
Skype occasionally drove me to despair as the call stability was atrocious, but a big pat on the back for the software tech’s at Skype now as they have substantially changed the quality of the service. For meagre amount of money a quarter ! am able to call and conference in any telephone and Skype subscriber on Earth. The latest version of Skype has a mass of very useful functions and there constantly expanding collection of valuable add on applications.
Organising Content
Evernote has secured more than a million users in no time at all – it lets you to store, organise and annotate any species of digital content on the web. Just go check it out…it’s free.
Invoicing, Time and Expenses capture, Accounting and CRM
You probably know that my burning desire to work remotely was originally inspired by Quickbooks Online, a small business accounting software web application. But it is easily beaten hands down by the free edition of salesorder.com – a lead to cash system that’s as easy to use as a hairbrush I looked at NetSuite whose pricing (and people) scared me off.
